Meet a real estate expert - Karan Doshi
In our latest article, we speak with Karan Doshi who recently joined our real estate team.
What is your banking specialism?
I have over 15 years of banking experience and specialise in real estate finance across all types of commercial and residential properties. I have dealt with various clients from individual landlords to corporates across different business such as hospitality, care homes, and purpose-built student accommodation. I have experience in funding both UK and overseas structures.
Within Arbuthnot Latham, I will be focusing on providing real estate lending solutions to residential, co-living schemes, student-led HMOs, and mixed-use schemes.
What is happening in your sector currently?
The property sector has witnessed a correction in market values due to rising interest rates. However, the fundamentals in the residential sector remain strong, with lack of supply and pent-up demand of affordable residential space underpinning the market. This will attract continued investment from both domestic and overseas players. Furthermore, a depreciating Sterling will make the UK a lucrative investment market for any overseas investors.
With build costs stabilising, developers will continue to build new homes and attempt to bridge the supply and demand gap in the UK. It is expected that rental costs in the UK market will continue to grow in the coming years. This, coupled with interest rates seemingly having peaked, will propel the investment market in the future. Investors will require funding to take advantage of these opportunities, and this is where Arbuthnot Latham is well positioned to add value with their flexible funding solution and expertise. I am a foodie and I enjoy cooking as well as trying new restaurants. Also, I love playing sports - my personal favourites are playing for my local cricket club, badminton, and table tennis. I enjoy exploring new cities and learning about their people and local culture. I also like listening to music.
