Meet the Team: Paul Clifton

As our Bristol office celebrates their five year anniversary, we speak with Paul Clifton, Senior Wealth Planner, who joined the team in 2020.

What is your banking specialism?

I help clients to achieve their lifetime goals. Our bespoke solutions cover cashflow modelling, tax structuring, investment management, estate planning, and financial protection.

 

How is Arbuthnot Latham supporting clients at this time?

A concern for many is inflation, which is sometimes called the “thief in the night” because it is not always an obvious danger. With the cost of living rising by around 7% per year and interest rates of say 1% per year, a client with £1m on deposit is effectively losing £60,000 per year. If they saw their account balance reduce by over £1,000 per week, they would be shocked. That is effectively the impact of inflation. There is no “one size fits all” solution and some people need to retain cash for shorter term expenditure / emergencies. However, for those who can afford to take and tolerate market risk, we offer a range of investment solutions that have the potential to outperform savings rates. Having a long-term plan while minimising both lifetime and inheritance tax can have a big impact on overall wealth too.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Away from work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and four children, supporting our local rugby teams and playing village cricket. I also enjoy running and mountain biking, which partially helps to offset the food and wine!!
