Meet the Team: Matthew Anderson
We sit down with Matthew Anderson, for our “Meet the Team” series with Arbuthnot Specialist Finance (ASFL), the short-term property finance arm of Arbuthnot Latham.
What does your role entail?
I’ve just started my role here as Head of Sales last month. I’ve been familiarising myself with the inner workings of ASFL and Arbuthnot Latham, connecting with people and building key relationships.
The role itself involves me strategising business development opportunities, and collaborating with marketing in promoting and raising greater awareness of the ASFL brand and the products we offer.
As of April 2021, what trends are you seeing in the Specialist Finance market?
There are quite a few trends that I am seeing. One that stands out to me is further consolidation as businesses continue to respond to the pandemic and the change in working environments.
It will be interesting to see how flexible working conditions or working from home sticks once lockdown is fully over. I have noticed property owners showing interest in converting their commercial properties and refurbishing residential properties to take advantage of people wanting to move out of major cities.
What would you say is noteworthy about Arbuthnot Specialist Finance?
The combination of the certainty and stability that a long-established bank brings together with the dynamism of the short-term lending industry. We must remember that ASFL is a specialist arm of Arbuthnot Latham, a private and commercial bank, which has a rich history of supporting strong relationships with clients.
We did a piece on some of the myths of bridging where we mentioned that as part of a bank we are fortunate enough not to have to rely on an external credit line. This means that we not only consistently fund borrowers but also reduce extra costs being passed onto them.
Are there any personal or professional highlights so far this year for you?
Professionally – joining ASFL!
Finally, do you have any hobbies/interests outside of your role?
I am heavily involved in running a local grassroots football club. The “stop/start” nature of the last two seasons, together with the challenges the pandemic has brought, have made it difficult but the aim now is just to get girls and boys back playing and enjoying – and that in itself will bring further challenges.
At Arbuthnot Specialist Finance Limited we have the ability to provide a full range of real estate finance solutions for transactional, refurbishment and development projects throughout mainland UK.
