Fraudsters use stolen credit or debit cards, or stolen card details, to buy goods or services. Increasing limits associated to contactless transactions have increased the potential impact of losses if a card is lost or stolen.

Protect yourself from card fraud

  • Protect your PIN.
  • Always keep your card secure in your wallet or purse.
  • Always keep your card in sight when handing it over to a cashier.
  • Check ATM machines for anything or anyone suspicious and walk away if not comfortable.
  • If your card is retained by a cash machine, contact the owner of the cash machine immediately and notify your bank to cancel the card.
  • Never provide security information (such as One Time Passcodes) or authenticate transactions whilst speaking to someone on the phone about activity on your card. Your bank will never ask you to do this.
  • Check the settings on your phone. Ensure that messages are not ‘previewed’ when the phone is locked so that fraudsters cannot access your One Time Passcode if your phone is stolen.
  • Download the Card App to monitor card transactions for unauthorised activity or to block your card in the event it is stolen.

Arbuthnot Latham Card App
